Greek & Roman Dieties

The Greeks and Roman worshiped many Gods and Goddesses - aspects of the same Male/Female energies all celebrate as The God and Goddess. We often call on a certain God or Goddess for help at certain points or for certain things in our lives.

GODDESSES

Aphrodite: (Greek) Venus (Roman) Goddess of passionate, sexual love. Call on her to assist you in pulling loving energy towards yourself.

Artemis: (Greek), Diana (Roman) Goddess of the Moon, huntress, Goddess of physical change and transformation. Call on her energy to help you lose weight or transform yourself.  Diana is also considered a seductress (as she enchanted her brother Lucifer to beget Aradia in the form of a cat) as well as a mother figure for Witches.

Astarte: (Greek) Fertility Goddess. Aids with both child bearing and harvest issues. Call on her to help you with your garden.

Athena: (Greek) Minerva (Roman) Warrior Goddess and Protectress. Goddess of Wisdom and independence. Want to learn to stand on your own? Athena is a good patron. She is also excellent for those with an independent streak (She is my patron in fact, so there will be a lot more posted about her soon).

Demeter (Greek) Ceres: (Roman); Goddess of the Harvest. Earth Mother. Call on her for help with children or the harvest. Also associated with the Spring and rebirth of the earth.

Dryads: (Greek) Feminine spirits of the trees. Call on them to aid you in understanding the Earth and experiencing it’s energies.

Persephone (Greek) Flora: (Roman); Goddess of Spring and Birth. For beautiful flowers, babies, and all bounties of Earth Mother. Persephone was daughter of Demeter and wife of Hades as well.

Fortuna: (Roman) Goddess of Fate.

Hera: (Greek), Juno (Roman) Goddess of Marriage and family. Wife of Zeus (Jupiter), but with a jealous and vindictive side.

Hestia: (Greek), Vesta (Roman) Goddess of home and hearth. Building a house, remodeling, or apartment hunting she is a good choice to call on.

Muses: (Greek) Goddess of Inspiration who vary in number depending upon the pantheon used. Use for inspiration or creative ventures.

Selene: (Greek) Goddess of the Moon and Solutions. She brings logic to a problem.

GODS

Adonis: (Greek) consort of Aphrodite/Venus. Also another name for "Lord." A vegetation God. Said to be the son of Apollo in some myths.

Apollo: (Greek and Roman); twin brother of Artemis/Diana. God of the Sun, Light and the Arts.

Eros: (Greek), Cupid (Roman); God of Romance and Passionate Love. Son of Aphrodite/Venus.

Hymen: (Greek), Dionysus (Roman); God of Marriage and Commitment.

Pan: (Greek) Bachus (Roman); God of Nature and the Woods, Laughter and Passion. Also music and personal abandon. Tends to have a wild, uncontrollable side - not recommended for new Witches to work with.

Poseidon: (Greek); God of the Sea. His familiars are dolphins and horses.
